Armenia is very mountainous and rugged. Northern Armenia is very lush, Central-West Armenia is more arid, Southern Armenia is very rugged and also lush...some images:

It looks amazing Mosov, thanks for sharing the pictures. I actually expected it to look semi-arid, it's got some amazing landscapes though.

It must be quite frustrating in Yerevan, looking across to Ararat which dominates the landscape so much and yet it being controlled by Turkey.
If Turkey were to make at least one small concession of lands it should be that.

The semi arid places are mostly near the border of Turkey, they are not much, some parts of the capital are a bit arid because of cutting trees. Though the landscape is of course very rugged. A small country but with the landscape looks much bigger

Yes, it looks to be a very beautiful country, one that anyone would be proud to call their homeland.

I've found some more pictures too.

It's definitely a country I'd like to visit some day. What's it like getting there though? Do you have to fly from Moscow and is it a safe place, there isn't too much trouble with Azeris or Kurds is there?

By the way in one of the photos it looks like to be the old Armenian Stonehenge:

    http://www.astrologycom.com/armstone1.html interesting read

To get to Armenia, there's flight from major European cities, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, so forth. Armenia is very safe, capital also very safe, you can walk around comfortably around late hours, there are actually many European tourists that visit, you will meet many French/German tourists...they come to see the ancient churches/museums. It's relatively cheap also to visit. Nothing to worry about the Azeri situation, as long as you are not on the frontline, you'll be fine Tell me if you have more questions...

It'd be interesting to see if any links exist between megalithic sites here and in Armenia.
The Megaliths spread here from Iberia and ultimately from the Mediterranean and Anatolia I think. They're really the most ancient structures on our landscape, everything before them is just small bits of archaeology so such structures have always fascinated me.

That would be interesting to investigate actually. I know many archaeologists/historians have studied the site.

You'd also want to visit Garni Temple, which is old Hellenistic temple from our pagan times
