Let's drive in Bruges (Belgium) on a sunny afternoon. Bruges, the capital of West Flanders in northwest Belgium, is distinguished by its canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings. We will also drive at The historic centre of Bruges which is a UNESCO world heritage site. This 4k HDR video will show you how it feels to drive in Europe. The views in this beautiful city during sunsets are amazing !

This film shows the Belgian capital Brussels in color as it was more than a century ago in 1908.
At the time Leopold II was still King of Belgium. He died one year later on 17 December 1909.
Many well-known parts of Brussels pass by the camera man's lens like the famous Stock exchange, The Jubelpark, the town hall on the Grote Markt, the cathedral, the Kings Palace, the huge building of the Palace of Justice, the woods surrounding Brussels and much more.
The film ends with a tram ride into the woods to the Musée Colonial de Tervueren, i.e. The Royal Museum for Central Africa at Tervueren. It was built to showcase King Leopold II's Congo Free State in the International Exposition of 1897 [Wikipedia]. This tram line still exists: Tram 44.

It was a time when no cars were yet on the streets, only horse and carriages and early electric trams.
Today Brussels is the residence of the European Parliament that forms the centre of the cooperation of the countries of the European Union.

This film has been motion-stabilized, speed corrected, enhanced and colorized by means of Artificial Intelligence software.

Note: As usual on this channel you are requested not to make race-related comments and please stay clear from obvious comments like "everybody in this film is now dead" and "not a fat or obese person in sight". Kindly try to make more profound comments that relate to Brussel's history and what life was like in that city over a century ago. Thank you very much for helping to make this video interesting to watch and its comments a joy to read.

    Source is Prelinger Archive.
The music is by Hampus Naeselius.

My first video that I ever had colored by the computer was a movie about Antwerp in the period 1910 - 1920. I thought that was a very nice movie to see in color.

Yesterday I was alerted by Tom Stappers to another film about Antwerp, also the period 1910 - 1920. It contains some of the same images, but also many new images. Very cool to see.

I again had this colored by the computer using artificial intelligence and I adjusted the speed. I also calmed the images by using deflicker software.

Do you take a look at Antwerp from 100 years ago ... in color?

I dare not share the pictures and videos of Belgium that I've seen posted on social media.

It would spoil the idyllic imagery of this thread.

Belgium has its good parts and bad parts. I tend to focus more on Flanders and in the case of Wallonia, the Meuse Valley, the Ardennes and the High Fens. Everybody knows what the Borinage, the Pays Noir and the rest of the Sillon industriel are like… It's like much of the English Midlands, Southern Yorkshire, parts of the Central Belt around Moscow, the blighted areas of Belfast, the Rhine-Ruhr, parts of Eastern Germany and the former industrial highlights of Silesia and the parts of the Czech Republic. No need to expand on that.

The most fuckly parts of Belgium (apart from the SI) are in the layout and maintenance of its infrastructure and its late development of central planning - which allowed the whole towns to be erected right alongside thoroughfares and provincial roads, blocking the rest of the landscape (something the UK also suffers from - and in the case of the Netherlands, unfortunately very common in the Southernmost part of Limburg province). Here is an egregious example from Flanders: lintbebouwing (ribbon development) alongside the A12 secondary road between Antwerp and Brussels. The A12 itself seems to be poorly planned and executed: look at the off-centre motorway lighting.

From a Dutch point of view, Belgium needs some real tlc. The E19 motorway, parts of the highway network around Liege, the Ring Antwerpen, the E34/A21 and the Ring Brussel get special mentions. As for Charleroi ? Let this speak for itself:

And whatever they were trying to do with the E25 and E40 at Liege.

Old: Southbound drivers get dumped right on to the quays along the River Meuse as the motorway simply ceases to exist (entering Belgium at 17:55):

As the video shows: a similar situation used to exist in Maastricht on the Dutch side of the border in what was perhaps the biggest chink in the armor of the Dutch motorway system: for over 40 years, traffic was just dumped right onto the streets of Maastricht. Today, there is a combined motorway/provincial road tunnel underneath the entire area. Not so in Liege as the E25 still continues southbound over the quays.

New - driver changes course towards the German border and as mentioned in Dutch in the other video: southbound drivers now have the option of driving around the city via Cheratte.

What I do notice, though, is that Flanders is beginning to resemble the Netherlands more and more with each passing year. They seem to model themselves on us. Wallonia and Brussels, on the other hand, are left behind.

Welcome to a Belgium train front video journey

Where it starts is in Leuven until the next station's Aarschot, Lier until Antwerp Central Station. Including small stops in between.
on the way in the recording everything can be heard except the engine sounds, because we were on the side of the packer or to be clearer the side first class is located where you can only hear the compressor, air pressure. 'is this video more for the view'

The train on it's own is one of the Renewed most famous EMU sets sprinters in Belgium, Das AM 80 BREAK.

In de overgangsfase van oud naar nieuw materieel maken we een rit tussen Knokke en de Panne.
Aanvullend twee korte opnames van 1962.
Het duurt een paar seconden voor de film start.

Zurenborg is in one pretty area just outside the city center of Antwerp with amazing architectures.
These beautiful houses were built in the late 19th century. Originally this place was considered like a plague!
Until finally the Cogels and Osy family bought this entire land in 1837 and built a residential area.
After the Second World War, many of the inhabitants of Zurenborg left, leaving the neighborhood badly damaged. In the 1960s, people wanted to demolishing all building and build houses and offices.
Artists, politicians and intellectuals rediscovered Zurenborg and made the government realize that this district is very valuable.
The most famous street in Zurenborg, which is also the main street, is Cogels-Osylei.
Other pathways include: Generaal Van Merlenstraat, Transvaalstraat, Waterloostraat, Generaal Capiaumontstraat, and Velodroomstraat.

The area around Cogels Oyslei (Cogels Oys´s avenue) in the Zurenborg district is an architectural gem from the early 20th century. There is a mix of houses and buildings in different styles: Art Nouveau, neogothic, neorennaissance, neoclassical, French Beaux Arts. It is a short tram ride from the city center.

    00:26 torenvalk
    01:15 roodborst
    01.18 koperwiek
01:38 Groenling (in het midden - rechts pimpelmees, links koolmees)
    01:46 pimpelmees
    01:49 grote bonte specht
    02:01 koolmees
    02:18 kauw
    02:32 wilde eend man
    02:42 wilde eend vrouw
    02:50 gele kwikstaart
    03:05 boomkruiper
    03:21 halsbandparkiet
    03:29 boomklever
