Germany plans Veterans' Day for fallen soldiers INCLUDING those who fought in two World Wars

    - May 22 will honour Germany's living and dead soldiers

    - Anger at army being honoured, given bloody history

Germany is breaking one of its major post-war taboos by announcing there will be an annual Veterans' Day to remember fallen soldiers.

The country's defence minister has unleashed a storm of criticism from opposition politicians and pacifists who object to the army being honoured given Germany's bloody past in the 20th century.

German Defence Minister Thomas de Maizičre has proposed May 22 as an annual Veterans’ Day to honour former soldiers living and dead.

Can't say what to make of it.
Can be a provocation to further strangle the Right or a real deal by a courageous man.

. As if all all armies don't have a "bloody past". Anyway, it's about time and step in the right direction for Germany. People really need to move on.

From what I've read on German websites it seems to be for remembrance of the Bundeswehr soldiers only.
It really would've surprised me, if a special Veterans Day was to be introduced with explicitly mentioning the soldiers of the past World Wars.

Nevertheless there exists the "Volkstrauertag" in Germany, remembering all who "died in conflicts or as the victims of violent oppression".

On this day Veterans organizations still lay down wreaths at places of remembrance for the fallen soldiers of the World Wars.
