French police crack down on migrants in Calais after local young mother becomes victim of sex attack



A young mother pushing her child in a pram has been sexually assaulted by a UKbound migrant in Calais. The Afghan refugee pounced as the local woman, in her 20s, was returning from a bakery.

The attack happened near the notorious 'Jungle' camp which is home to scores of migrants. The camp witnessed the rape of a London-based journalist last year.

Police rounded up a dozen migrants after Tuesday morning's attack and the victim later picked her alleged attacker out at an identity parade. He is facing charges of indecent assault.

A police spokesman said: 'We constantly advise women not to walk around alone near the industrial area, near the ferry port and woodland camp.'

Last summer, a Canadian student journalist travelled to the French port to interview migrants sleeping rough before trying to sneak into Britain.

As she took photographs of a group of refugees, she was lured into a makeshift hut and raped. A Pakistani man is now in custody awaiting trial.

Also on Tuesday, a Vietnamese migrant was killed and another seriously injured as they attempted to leap on to a lorry at a motorway rest area.

The two men, in their 20s, were thrown from the back of the truck. Last month a migrant was killed by a 100mph train as he tried to make his way through the Channel Tunnel on foot.

The latest incidents come as the French government claims to be launching a major offensive to remove thousands of migrants living along the northern French coast. Hardline immigration minister Eric Besson has threatened to bulldoze the 'Jungle' camp.

Under another controversial scheme, the French are hoping Britain will pay for scores of Afghans to be flown back to Kabul at a cost of more than £1million to the UK taxpayer.

The proposal was discussed in secret by British and French officials in Calais three weeks ago.

But some people feel better when feeding them, giving them monney so they can leave to England. This case is disgusting. I want them all back to A-stan so they can join the big boys and shoulder an AK47 against Gi's instead of raping our women.

This really is disgusting, but I'm glad that the two governments seem to at least be moving towards doing something about it. There seem to be a lot of articles about immigration crackdowns lately and one can only hope for the best. It may be a strain on taxpayers to fly them all back to where they came from, but let's hope the money will also be used to prevent them from trying again. Either that or send them all on a boat into the Atlantic and dump 'em. Its obvious these people aren't the types that are going to stop trying to swarm European lands on their own.

A case of "closing the barn door after the horse has escaped". They wouldn't need to crack down on immigrants if they had not let them in! The cynic in me thinks this is just a PR exercise to contain the public's outrage.
