According to stats there are Macedonians in Thessaloniki. It is just that... You are not Macedonians... I guess that you met many Bulgarian gypsy beggars there who spoke your language - and quite a few girls who changed country and identity, and found a good husband there...

I think he is getting mixed up with Lerin, where everyone speaks Slavic, especially the old people. Salonika has been fully Hellenized and colonized by Christian Turks through the years, so the Slavic character has disappeared from there.

I remember when I Was in Solun, I asked an old lady "zboruvas po nashe?" (do you speak our language), she replied with "ohi" (no). Which means she understood but couldn't be fucked dealing with a 'skopyanos'.

Actually the town of Florina was always mixed, and the language has been forgotten in there too. The few old men and women who still speak that idiom are in the villages around the town.

It was mixed as much as Salonika, Athens, Skopje and Bitola. But the fact is that the majority at one stage was Slavic speakers.
Don't tell me about one of my cities of origin. I personally know even people in there mid 20's who know the Slavic idiom in Lerin/Florina. They learnt it from their grandparents.

I don't know what stage you refer to. Maybe the middle ages?

Lerin/Florina or Salonika. I've heard of Salonika's large Jewish population, but not Lerin.
