There were a few blacks in Europe over the centuries and they were absorbed into the white European population through mixing, especially in France, Spain, Portugal and Britain, while in America, mixed race people bred into the black population because of strict segregation. American whites stayed pretty close to 100% European with few exceptions.

There were blacks living in Britain and France as far back as the 1700s. What happened to them? There wasn't any segregation there. Europeans were much more willing to race mix than Americans were, and still are. Black American soldiers had European women hanging all over them while back in America, they would be thrown in jail for just whistling at a white woman.

Don't forget Europeans are mixed themselves. English are Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Vikings, Normans, and so forth. Americans are just a more recent mixing.

You may need a tissue because the common statistic I read is 1/3 of white americans have recent african DNA, I am one to think slightly less around like 1/4th but still a large swarth of the the US .

DNA profiling didn't exist up to 1984, no idea how could they have properly tested that in 1970 and come up with that number.
