    Yes. In the book of Job it says clearly that the Earth is round. The word which is used for round is khug which is also a word for a sphere. So people can not decude whether it means round or a sphere in the Bible
    It were scientists of that time who claimed that the Earth is flat so Church blindly followed what scientists were saying.

    There are some sayings in the Genesis which gives a good arguments for it.

    For example;
    People thought for ages until 1900s ( Big Bang was a theory invented by a Belgian physicist priest Lemaitre. Ofcourse Big Bang is not so much a theory anymore since evidence for it are overhelming and growing ) thought that the Universe is eternal. In Genesis it says "In the beginning....". If some thinks about it deeply it is for sure a surprising

    Than Genesis talks about waters.....
    We know today that hydrogen was first element out of which every other elements with the help of fusion started to exist....
    and so on

    It says in the Bible "With God one day is thousand of years and a thousand of years one day"
    Based on that people cant say that because of six day creation that the Universe is 6000 years old because it is obvious that these are metaphors all written according to their time and how people inspired by God perceived them looking from a purely religious view of ofcourse.

    Not true, that's actually a myth. European Christians never believed in a flat Earth; I'll try to get you some quotes from mediaeval scientists, clergy or philosophers.

    On the other hand, if nothingness created the spark, it would be created everywhere, because there "was nothing"...and it would be happening now, because there are void zones in the Universe, where "nothing" is...unless space itself is something, even if devoid of physical matter.

    Something must have triggered the event, be it a Type V civilization (on the Kardashev scale) or "God" - which might be the same.

    [QUOTE=Graham;880503]The problem being. Supposed nothingness can create a spark.

    I tried to address that issue here. With God or without there was a beginning without nothingness.

    There were some scientists who thought ofcourse that the Earth is not flat like Galilei but the Church was under the influence of other scientists.
    Regarding people I do not know.

    No, no, no, way before Galilei; the idea that the Earth is flat was invented by some anti-Christian scientists about two centuries ago if I remember correctly. Too bad I had to return a book about the Mediaeval ages to the Library otherwise I would give you the quotes right now.

    There are still followers of flat earth theory and none of them are Christian.

    Take look at this for example:
