Interesting. If Shakira wasn't Colombian and from Canada, she'd be considered half Asian, because her father is Lebanese and Lebanon is an Asian country. And thus could call herself a "visible minority" (the same meaning as the term "Person of Color" in the U.S). I know usually in America, especially those who are ignorant to geography, "Asian" is usually a term only for East Asians, but there's way more to Asia then just them.

Shakira looked triracial is some pictures and easily passable as some type of quadroon. But being Colombian from the coast I'm sure she has amerindian and more so than SSA.

When I saw the photos of her before the blonde hair and whatever else she changed, I had a feeling that she had Amerindian or African DNA that wasn't being mentioned. Genetics wise, I'd guess she's probably half West Asian, about 40% European, and the other 10% being probably Amerindian and or African.

The site "Ethnicelebs", dedicated to tracing the genealogy and the ethnic backgrounds of famous people states that she has some Amerindian and African roots. Judging from her before pictures, she could obviously fit in Latin America, and I also think she could fit in the Levant/Western Asia, and possibly certain parts of Mediterranean Europe. As another user said, she looks like one of the more European influenced South Americans.

These lebaneses in South America are somewhat close to old greeks and cypriots, they are even Constantinople Orthodox. So their integration with our society was fast. But I understand your point, in reality they came from Asia.

That's true. The cultural and physical differences compared to other parts of Asia are probably the reason why many people may not consider or associate the Lebanese and other West Asians as being "Asian"/from Asia. Even if they are. I guess it just shows how arbitrary all these labels really are.
