Several European countries have this VAT tax setup. What are your opinions on this type of tax?

The US does not need any new taxes. It just needs to get rid of the Federal Reserve, and print it's own non-debt based money.

I'll never ever vote in favor of giving the Federal government more power to tax. I don't think that the Feds should directly be collecting taxes from us at all. I'd love to see all taxes collected at a state level and to then see Federal projects payed for (or not) by the states rather than individuals. This way, if a particular state felt strongly enough about opposing a Federal project they would have more power to oppose it than would an individual.

Good point. Many people forget that the Feds are agents of the sovereign States. However, no individual state has the power to resist the Federal Income Tax.
