Why you Italians never include Central Italy and Rome in that is always confusing to me. I know Central Italy gets more like Southern Italy, but what would happen to the Centre of the country if the North split off? Would the Centre + South just remain as the remnant of Italy or would it break up into 3 countries?

I like the idea of North + Central Italy as one state, the former Kingdom of Naples or the Two Sicilies as another and Sardinia and Corsica as another or with the North.
Malta could join the Kingdom of Naples.

Actually it's the opposite, Central Italians are closer to Padanians. But I wouldn't include Rome in this business, because everyone knows it would be the kiss of death.
