Japanese, Korean and Arabic fascinate me but also Turkish since i think that to understand a nation is basic to be able to understand its language.

To have most of Europe covered linguistically knowledge of two Romance, two Germanic, two Slavic languages and a Greek language would fit the bill. My personal preference would be: French, Spanish, English, German, Russian, Polish and Greek. That would suffice

Wouldn't be better for you to learn your true ancestral language of Yiddish instead of Hebrew? You know, 90% of today`s Jews was speaking Yiddish before Israeli state abandoned it in favor of modern Hebrew in 1950s.

There's a bit of a Yiddish theatre revival happening in Israel, I believe. The language is dying out because the survivors who went to Israel after the war were trying to forget their painful pasts. Some of the children of Holocaust survivors still speak or understand it, but it's very rare for anyone in my generation to know more than a few phrases. Orthodox Ashkenazi Jews in both Israel and Europe speak Yiddish; they only use Hebrew in prayer.

In my family, Yiddish was only spoken when it was necessary to communicate with Jews from other European countries. Native languages were spoken in the home (i.e. French, Romanian, and English). I suppose my interest in Yiddish is small because I've never needed to use it.

I'm currently torn between learning German, Italian, French or Spanish (altho I have significant knowledge of the latter two). I'd love to learn Norwegian or another Scandinavian language aswell, but I'd have no use for it..

Fluent German. I took it in college, but that was years ago and most of it has been forgotten because it is never spoken aloud around here.

I really liked the language and felt more natural speaking it than I would ever speaking a romance language, lol
