Metal detectors have come often across ancient treasures hidden underneath the soil from Vikings, Anglos, Saxons, Jutes, Romans, Celts, Normans and their battles across cities, beaches and the countryside regions too in Great Britain.

Many historic battles took place here - and who knows what treasures lay hidden underneath the ground. Ancient Kings and Queens would bury their treasures during times of battles and raids in order to keep their possessions safe... but they didn't always find and recover them again later. Ancient artifacts have remained hidden underneath the earth for many centuries... until metal detectors later found them by chance.

The island of Lindisfarne is popular today with metal detectors because of all the historic Viking raids that happened there.

An unemployed man became a millionaire when he discovered the biggest Anglo Saxon hoard ever discovered by a metal detector.

The treasures from his find were bought from him by our national museums where they're being safely kept and studied upon for educational purposes, and also so that these national treasures can be appreciated by many people, tourists and visitors, etc.

In 2008 a man using a metal detector found a hoard of 840 gold coins from the Iceni tribe from 40BC - 15AD, this hoard has since become known as The Wickham Market Hoard.
