This topic is for discussion on whether or not Silesia (Upper and Lower Silesia) should become an independent country. It's already kinda an autonomous region of Poland but not really. The whole area of Silesia has an extensive and somewhat complicated history being a part of modern day Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Today a lot of people living in the territories of what is considered modern day Silesia usually see themselves as Silesian first and Polish second.
The Voivodeships that make up what would be Silesia as a whole today would be the Lower Silesian, Opole, and Silesian Voivodeships (States/Provinces).
Historical area of Silesia:
When it was part of Prussia:
The Polish provinces that were a part of what was Silesia historically: Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Opole Voivodeship, and the Silesian Voivodeship:
Silesia has a very grand and complete history of basically being settled by Germans, Poles, Czechs/Moravians who all intermixed and intermingled with each other one way or another. Today a good amount of Silesians want to be looked upon as their own ethnic group apart from Germans, Poles, and Czechs.
I do have some Silesian ancestry but I am not really for or against it, I am basically indifferent, it's an interesting topic though.
