IQ scores just like many other things in the real world follow the so called normal (or Gaussian) distribution. When it comes to a normal distribution there is a so called 68–95–99.7 rule which when it comes to IQ test scores says that within +-1 standard deviation fall 68% of participants, within +-2 standard deviations fall 95% of participants and within +-3 standard deviations fall 99.7% of participants.

IQ tests have a median at 100 meaning that 50% of participants fall above and 50% fall below, including Cattell.

If you take standard deviation of 15 that would mean that 68% participants have an IQ between 85 and 115. So for example, you create an IQ test which has 100 problems and you bring a certain number of people to solve it. 68% of people who solved say 25 questions (or 40 or 60) would mean that those who solved up to 25 questions have an IQ between 85 and 115. Those who solved 25 questions have an IQ of 115 and those who solved 0 have an IQ of 85 or below. Or something like that. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Cattell uses standard deviation of 24. Obviously scoring 124 on Cattell is the same as scoring 115 on tests where standard deviation is 15.

Why wouldn't Mensa scores be real? Most Mensa IQ tests are normed at 100 and use SD of 15. Just because Cattell Mensa type practice test which uses SD of 24 says flies all over the Internet doesn't mean Mensa scores aren't real. See above.
