Tall alpines do not exist. Well, they're not "pure" alpine, they have something else in the mix. The tallest alpines are the so called "cromagno-alpinoid" who are transitional with borreby IMO.

Alpinids range from small to medium stature (usually they're medium). If he's taller than "medium" (I guess it would be taller than 1,75 in the traditional alpo areas like Austria, Italy, France...), than it's very very probably not an alpine, but a mixed type with maybe predominant alpine in facial features.
For example, in my area (NW Italy) alpinized atlanto-meds and dinarids (quite tall phenotypes generally), are quite common and they're always taller than "pure" alpinids (they're common, too).

Characterists of alpinids:
- brachycephaly (rounding face)
- brachymorphic body structure (stocky built)
- snub nose
- large forehead
- stature is usually short
- medium pigmentation
- pedomorphic/ rather infantilized features
IMO very few people posted here are pure alpinids.
