KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- The condition of Monk Mitrofan, who was beaten up in the southern part of Kosovska Mitrovica, is stable on Thursday.
He is successfully recovering at the Health Center in northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
Doctor Gojko Igrutinović told Tanjug that the injured monk should be released from hospital soon.
Monk Mitrofan was attacked on Wednesday by two unidentified persons in southern Kosovska Mitrovica leaving him with head and right arm injuries. He was assaulted in the vicinity of the town hall, where he was supposed to take care of certain records following his father's death.
The Kosovo police told Tanjug on Thursday that there were no new details in relation to the investigation which was launched after the incident and that the search for the perpetrators was still underway.
The monk was visited in the hospital by Bishop of Raška and Prizren Teodosije, who condemned the attack and submitted a written note to leading diplomatic representatives in Kosovo.
In the note, Bishop Teodosije said that this act of cowardice showed that the priests and monks of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) in Kosovo were still under constant threat and devoid of the freedom of movement.
Kosovska Mitrovica District Head Radenko Nedeljković also condemned the attack, calling on the competent bodies of EULEX and KFOR to conduct a comprehensive investigation, find and punish the perpetrators.
“In my opinion, this incident illustrates the security situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and to what extent Serbs are secure and free,” he stressed.
On Wednesday, the attack on Monk Mitrofan was strongly condemned by representatives of the Serbian Ministry for Kosovo.
