Default What your opinion of monarchy in general?

What's your opinion on the institution of monarchy in general (please not just another debate on the British monarchy)? What kinds of powers should a monarch have? Should it even exist at all?

It's positive. Our golden age was with monarchy, not republic. I would favour a constitutional monarchy, which would be more true to our history. Also, between a king and a "president of the republic" the difference isn't much. The latter is elected every four years... but he's an useless figure.

Even though we don't have one and I wouldn't mind so much if we did, a
constitutional monarchy is probably the best way to go.

Our powerless monarch is useless to be honest

But I am starting to lose faith in our "Democracy" so it depends really, I'm all for a monarch with almost aboslute power provided they actually look after the people (Such as following the opinion of the people).

The main downsides with democracy these days is that the media can pretty much choose the winner through political assassinations or media blackouts depending on what agenda they want in power.

The sheep also vote tribally, there are far too many people here in Britain who say "I've voted Labour/Conservative all my life". Many are actually proud of this as well. Frankly they treat democracy like a joke, many totally ignore the policies of their parties. I was once speaking to my Grandmother who said she was voting Labour because of what the Conservatives did in the 1980s, she then started complaining about the Polish immigrant invasion of our town, completely oblivious to the fact that voting Labour was a contributing factor to it.

Its like they say "2 idiots can out vote a genius".

Theres also the fact that here in Britain the politicians say one thing and then do another. David Cameron vowed to cut immigration vastly and give Britain an EU referendum, he lied on doing both. Not attempting to follow your own promises given to the nation is grossly unforgivable.

A patriotic powerful monarch (who is not a Windsor) is fine, we can always hang them if they betrayed the people thus acting as a deterent to any future monarch thinking of abusing their power.
