The hippies used to sing songs about this in the 60s. Some kind of mystical age of stupid utopian peace, joy, universal blahblahblah based off of astrological BS.

Don't worry...real traditional pagan traditions will replace and get rid of the hippie aquarius bs in due time. I think the Dagda and Odin smashing away the age of aquarius and being a heroic path to militant opposition against liberalism and mohammed is reason enough to answer yes to this poll. That along with the outdoor sports and back to nature spirit that we and our children all get to enjoy and raise our children in.

Some? Yes, very few. Many who claim to be "Heathen" are nothing of the sort - usually associating it with black metal or goth or something similar. Mostly though the various forms of Christianity are being replaced by nihilistic secular liberalism after at least 50 years of being told to "do your own thang" and "make you own kind of music".

Do I wish that more would rediscover their heathen roots? Absolutely, but that isnt what most playgans are really interested in, because it takes a substantial change of attitude (especially away from liberalism and modernism).

    Oh well.

Hello, by the way, this is my first post.

I think pagan religions are becoming more popular in a cultural manner, but I don't think it's realistic to think that Europe will go from secular humanism to worshiping Thor and Zeus.

I think it would be nice if that were the case. If people had genuine virtue and nobility from the old gods.

I agree with this. A lot of the so called 'Heathens', 'Asatruers' and 'Odinists', whatever you want to call them are nothing more than wannabes and posers. They like to get together, get dressed up in Viking garb, have play around sword fights, debate the Edda, get drunk on mead and have a blot to one of the gods at the end of it all. What the hell does it do for anybody on any real level? NOTHING! All this is nothing but buffoonery and what I have seen from many Heathens is nothing more than an embarrassment. Plus, there is hardly any spirituality within Heathenry, in fact, I have had more stimulating conversations on spirituality with Wiccans and Druids than any Heathen I've come across.

Also, these people are obsessed with the past, studying it, debating it and attempting to re-create it. I am sorry but the Viking ages aren't coming back. I think these people latch onto the past so much because it was a time when Europe was great (were still great, just not as great as we used to be) and just because it's what their ancestors believed and it gives them some sort of sense empowerment. But I believe it's essentially a form of escapism. As far as I am concerned, people obsessed with the past often ignore the present and the future. Will it fill the void in Europe? Hardly.

No, modern secular values are based on a whole set of preceding socioeconomic conditions, they don't exist just because people choose to believe in them. The so-called Heathen neo-religions, lacking any such basis, are of no relevance.
