One of Mélenchon's (prominent leftist politician from the Front de Gauche) proposition I support is raising the minimum salary to 1700e/month.
When you've substracted the taxes from the actual 1400e you're left with 1100e which means living in misery, and that's basically what the gov gives you when you're unemployed btw.
Raise the minimum salary significantly and peoples living on welfare will be more interested in finding a job.

Minimum wage:
I'am for it, but it must be competitive.
Minimum wage should be set regionally, whilst people would complain about it it could actually serve as a way to spread out businesses across the country more effectively.
The Welsh and Northern English would moan about it, but if they offered a lower minimum wage it could potentially attract businesses which would otherwise locate in the SE to the North or Wales. In other words it would make some of these other regions competitive with some of the better performing regions.
Welfare:
Welfare should be set regionally instead of nationally. I proposed this before the coalition quite some months ago actually and now they've proposed it too.
It doesn't make sense to pay people living in areas which greatly differ in wealth such as the SE and NW the same amount of welfare.
It's much cheaper to living in the NW than SE - the property rents are lower, the shops tend to be cheaper, everything is cheaper than in the SE so the cost of living is reduced.
Now there will be uproar about this, mainly from people who've gotten used to living on a certain amount or have commitments which will be affected but the welfare system needs sorting out.
Already the Welsh Assembly has voiced its concerns, but that is because they know people in Wales will receive less welfare - however it is one of the cheapest places to live in the UK and one of the most dependent on welfare.

Against. I am against unions and standardization.
