Actually, I think status matters more to women as they get older and are more serious about finding a partner for life (husband) and someone to father their children... someone to build a family with and make a serious committment to. Younger women are usually less fussy because they tend to view relationships/men as more disposible. They know that if they get together with a guy that they wouldn't want to be with long-term it doesn't matter, since they're unlikely to be ready to "settle down" with one guy anyway. If they get sick of him or bored, they just break up and move onto the next guy. No big deal. Older women (> 25) are more likely to want a "keeper".

Not really, desperation comes into the picture by that time. I've seen it happen among my personal contacts.

She is confusing social status with wealth. Females at a younger age care much more about social status than older women, whereas older women tend to care about stability/security more, although they often have to settle for less.

No I wasn't confusing social status with wealth. Think about it. Single women in their 30's have most likely had a career and much disposable income for over a decade. Most of those types don't need a man to provide for them... they don't need a man for stability and security. They care more about meeting men whom they can respect and won't be an embarrassment to them. (It's a sad fact that women of all ages will respect a man who is of high social standing more than a social loser.)

The reason, I repeat, that younger women are less likely to care about social standing is because most of them are not ready to settle down with one man for the rest of their lives yet and so to them men and relationships are more or less disposable. They feel they have all the time in the world to meet Mr. Right and so playing with a few unsuitable men along the way won't hurt. It's just a bit of fun. They can see a guy for a while and when it suits them no longer, they just get rid of them and move onto the next guy. But when women are of the age where they want to settle down, get married and have a family, they are more choosey. Of course. It's the same for men. It's normal to not be so particular about a woman who is only wanted for a short-term fling or a one-night-stand. When it comes to choosing a wife, most men will be more discerning.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think any of this is positive. Bring back the days when people were encouraged and even expected to marry and have families in their early 20's, I say! I think it's pathetic that so many people wait until they're past the age of 30 to finally think about growing up. (Many past the age of 40!!) Many of the major social and demographic problems we have to today are due to adults not wanting to grow up.
