    UFC 100: Fight Predictions

    UNDERCARD:

Light Heavyweight bout: Mark Coleman v. Stephan Bonnar: Coleman used to get gassed early even in his prime: Stephan Bonnar winner by split decision.

    · Lightweight bout: Mac Danzig v. Jim Miller: Danzig has honed his submissions into an immaculate weapon: Mac Danzig winner by tap-out from Trinagle choke or Kimora 1st round.

    · Welterweight bout: Dong Hyun Kim v. TJ Grant: Grant by knock-out 2nd round.

(The rest of the UnderCard, I don’t particularly care about, but feel free to comment.)

    MAINCARD:

Heavyweight Championship: Brock Lesnar v. Frank Mir: Unless Lesnar has really boned-up on his submission defence, we’re going to see déjŕ vu. However, Lesnar has learned to stay relaxed when he has opponents in a pickle, and better utilises his power with better form, and technically correct punching. So, If Mir gets caught by one of those straight hands he’s done. But…: Mir winner by way of submission late in the 1st round.·

Welterweight Championship: Georges St-Pierre v. Thiago Alvez: I have seen the future of MMA, and its initials are GSP. While it is tempting to say that GSP will easily impose his standard athletic maul upon Alvez, I truly think he will have an issue in this bout. Alvez is slippery and deceptively powerful for his size as we saw in his fight against Matt Hughes. Moreover, as seen in his fight with Matt Serra, GSP doesn’t posess an iron-clad chin. But fear not, fight fans and Apricity bad-asses: GSP winner early in the 2nd round by way of KNOCK OUT. You heard it here first, folks.

    · Middleweight bout: Dan Henderson v. Michael Bisping: What can I say, here: Bisping is perhaps one of the most over-rated fighters in the history of MMA. Although he will manage to evade Henderson for the first two rounds…: Henderson winner by way of fight-stoppage in the 3rd round.

    · Welterweight bout: Jon Fitch v. Paulo Thiago: Thiago winner by way of TKO in the 2nd round.

    · Middleweight bout: Yoshihiro Akiyama v. Alan Belcher: Pfft…: K.O. 1st round winner Belcher.

More specifically, I'll bet that Mir catches that jackass in a straight arm-bar.

Here's hoping it's a genuine KO and not a shitty TKO.

Huh, I actually like Bisping. I'm hoping that this fight will end with him securing a plum and kneeing the crap out of Henderson.

I'd be interested in SuuT's opinion of Fedor. Best MMA fights ever = Fedor vs Nogueira and Mirko.

Fedor is certainly no joke. But, being Ukranian, his ultimate motives that guide his actions are difficult to say. His overarching interest in M1 global seems to be the hinge that swings him this way or that; and he (and his management) may well be tactically dodging the UFC with the primary motivation being immediate title contention at some future point - not money: I have it on pretty solid authority that he was offered, by ZUFFA, a contract that would make a top Boxer drool. So, with money effectively out of the equation, one has to look at what's left. All at the same time, remembering that he's Ukranian (Ukranian = inherenty evil, smart and crafty).

As far as his fighting style, he has a well-roundedness that is reminicent of Anderson Silva or Lyoto Machida: it doesn't seem to matter what kind of pickle he gets in - he's got a tool to deal with it. His striking is top-notch, his footwork, stance and positioning are good, his Jitz is really impressive and he effectively incorporates the relevant cross-over elements of Karate, Tae Kwon Do and Muay Tai as well as Chute.

With all that said, the "best P4P fighter" status heaped his way by even some people in-the-know doesn't make any sense. It's relative: that I can walk around all day in a crowd and probably never run into anyone that would give me much trouble says nothing to the fact that I would have the fight of my life on my hands with even lower rung UFC lightweights. Same with Emelianenko: that he mows-over everyone that gets tossed in front of him in the venues in which he has appeared gives only very tentative information about how he would perform in the UFC, or even the WEC. That is how intense and clustered the world's talent is. You might remember that Cro Cop was supposed to come into the UFC and clean-up and make it look easy. What happened? - he gets made to look 'average' by the likes of Cheick Kongo.

    Default UFC 104

HOLY FUCK! What happened in the Machida vs. Rua fight!? Machida took a pounding and looked like he was going to lose the fight for sure. I'd be willing to bet that Rua cracked more than a few of Machida's ribs. As much as I like Machida, I really don't see how the judges scored him as the winner.

An absurd decision. Unanimous to boot. I think it was only a matter of time before we saw in MMA what has been going on in boxing since its inception as a contest: Machida puts more asses in more seats.

Smile I thought this was just too cool for school....

UFC fighter was eating ketchup and rice before UFC 104
    By Steve Cofield

If anyone needed a huge postfight bonus at UFC 104, it was Pat Barry. The heavyweight out of New Orleans, scored Knockout of the Night and Fight of the Night for his victory over Antoni Hardonk. That was good enough for $120,000. Good thing, Barry needed the infusion of cash in the worst way. He confirmed to MMAScrapsRadio that he was completely down on his luck before the fight, agreeing that he had little to eat in Los Angeles the week of the fight.

"I still had my apartment but if something would've happened and the fight had been canceled, I would've been evicted six days later."

Barry, 30, said he didn't even tell his trainer Duke Roufus for fear that he would think the fighter had the wrong motivation going into the fight. Barry said he didn't ask anyone for money including his mother:

"I could ask someone but then at the same time, how hard are you going to work for something if everytime you get in trouble somebody catches you? I did something to put myself in this position I have to work my way out of it."

Listen to Barry talk about his troubles before the fight:

Barry got his $120,000 bonus check last Tuesday. He couldn't believe it. When he went to deposit the check, his truck wouldn't start. Barry got a jump and hit the bank sporting a black eye and pink striped shorts.

"I go to the bank, I'm sweaty, I've got the black eye, I haven't shaven in two days, I'm strung out because I haven't slept, I have green circles under my eyes so I'm like 'Can I have a deposit slip mam?'. She gives it to me, I fill it out hand it to her. She looks at the deposit slip, then the check, then looks at me and says 'Excuse me I'll be right back.' Then a manager comes out, a guy in a suit and says 'What seems to be the problem?' I was like 'Well I have a black eye, that's the only problem I know this looks really ridiculous.' So he asks me for my ID, I hand him my license an he's like 'Your license says Pat Barry, but this check was written to Patrick Barry.' So I decided to be funny and tell him Pat Barry is in my trunk right now. He didnt laugh. So I told him take your time man do whatever you need to do because I have no where to go and my truck probably wont start when I go outside so you can just do whatever you need to do. An hour later he came back and everything was fine, the check was in my bank account."

Listen here to the entire Barry interview.
