Gay marriage to be legalised in Scotland despite two thirds of people opposing change

Scotland is to be come the first part of the UK to legalise religious gay marriages despite two-thirds of people responding to an official consultation opposing the change.

Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Deputy First Minister, today confirmed she will bring forward legislation but said it will include “important protections” for clergymen, teachers and parents who oppose the move. She said she is working with the Home Office to amend UK equalities laws to ensure that celebrants cannot be prosecuted by gay couples if they refuse to conduct a marriage service.

Even as a gay person, I can say if the people by and large do not want it, then don't do it until they are ready for it.

I don't care at all about gay marriage, but not listening to your people is a bad move - politicians. Eventually they'll get fed up.

hmmm The headline. Telegraph is misleading.

2011 consultation reports 65% in favour of same-sex marriage and 35% against. Which matches almost exactly what Ipsos-Mori found when they carried out a poll on same-sex marriage in June 2012: 64% of Scots agree same-sex couples should have the right to marry, 68% agree that churches should have the freedom to wed same-sex couples if they choose.
Scots Government have made the correct decision imo.

'Democracy is listening to the voice of the people... if that voice says what politicians want it to.

With politicians like those it seems, at this pace we can expect zoophilia and pedophilia to be legalized as well.
If people say no, it won't matter of course!

It would be good for the economy also. Scottish law already permits marriage at the age of 16 without parental consent.

We get quite a few from England getting married in Gretna and other locations.

    Lets twist this round?

What if the majority of Scots wanted zoophilia?(99% from Aberdeen)

    Would you accept that?

    Democracy demands it.

But who said that I support democracy?

This is great! One day, soon enough, people will see the true face of democracy. It's hight time those who run the regime start messing up.
