I heard it's not good for the knees either. Never done crossfit training myself and do joint mobility exercises, my joints are in perfect shape. http://crossfitoneworld.typepad.com/...our-knees.html

My best friend has a slap tear from doing those kipping pull-ups CrossFit style. He will be going under the knife in a few days. I warned him about that nonsense but he didn't listen

That's gotta hurt. I'm very meticulous about my shoulder mobility, I can do shoulder dislocation exercise, shoulder width grip with a broom stick. My shoulders are very flexible. To begin with I would recommend using a towel and really wide grip . I've never had any issues with my shoulder joints, and I credit it to shoulder dislocate exercise. But it must be approached with extreme caution.

Now, are you just moving the arms in this movement, you're not trying to flex or anything? It looks like a good thing for me to start doing, I have some slight subluxation in my clavicle if I don't stretch my pectoral muscles enough, and this looks like it would be fun to incorporate.

Yes just the arms, I lock my elbows, but for a beginner that may be difficult and uncomfortable, it's not a must. Just go slow and easy, make your grip as wide as necessary.

If what you want is pectoral stretch than I would recommend door frame pectoral stretch.
