I wanted pipers to play "Scotland The Brave". Most Americans know that one as soon as they hear it. At least, they sang "Danny Boy" and "Jerusalem". I'm embarrassed to say that the Welsh selection was new to me.

Scotland the Brave was the old anthem. No one knows the words to that.

I actually thought the Olympic opening was much better orchestrated than I thought it was going to be.

When I saw that shit little hill and all those mock villagers running about, I thought that was it. I presumed that all there was going to be was some Morris dancing and a few goats.

So when your expectations are incredibly low like mine were, it was quite a nice surprise.

Well the BBC greatly over represents minorities and so did the Olympic opening ceremony. Really, by all the minorities at the Olympics anyone would think this nation is 15% black by now.

There was anger last night after Scottish and Welsh members of Team GB refused to sing the National Anthem.Footballer Kim Little said she had made a ‘personal choice’ not to sing it before her team’s matches at the Olympics because she is Scottish.

Ridiculous. And if Scotland becomes independent and they ever have English people on their teams if they refused to sing the Scottish anthem there'd be hell to pay!

He doesn't look mixed race to me. Having an white parent that just happened to have been born in Africa doesn't make you mixed race. I don't see how his appearance could have gone from Negroid to Caucasoid in just a few generations because males tend to look more like their fathers.

Scotland should have been represented more than it was. The four brief songs were inadequate to cover the contributions of the four constituent countries. People, who don't see it this way, claim that the ceremony should have centered on London, exclusively or primarily. Did the Chinese limit their ceremony to Beijing?

The Olympics is rather a South Eastern affair, the Midlands, North and SW of England have been left out just as much as Scotland, Wales or NI.
I wish Manchester or some other Northern city would win some event for a change and then we might see things moving out of London over time. England is very dominated by London like France is by Paris. All the other cities are rather provincial in comparison and ignored by the government and this has to change.
