My dad was from Edinburgh too. Really want to spend more time there and go hiking in Arrochar as well.

    Default Architectural antiquity

I realise that these pictures have been selected for picturesqueness, but the aerial views also give the same impression: that of a city in which an unusual amount of ancient architecture has been preserved.

I suppose that this is a tribute to Scottish frugality. Repair and refurbish rather than demolish. As a member of the [US] National Trust for Historic Preservation, I heartily approve.

What a beautiful city ! It seemed to me that , in several photographs, I saw the Sir Walter Scott monument, though it was never mentioned. Am I right ?

Hopefully that will keep the undesirables out. A city that beautiful should never be tainted by the scourge of multiculturalism, though I am sure there are traces of it there now.

Yeah It was, on Princes Street. View from one side

"Edinburgh has more listed buildings than anywhere in Britain. Over 4,500 listed buildings within the city. A total of 40 conservation areas covering 23%of the building stock and 23% of the population, the highest ratio of any major city in the UK."

    Why I love the place.

That Waverley Train station is being done up. The steps up to balmoral hotel are under a glass roof. It looks nice. It's not so cold now.
