ASENOVGRAD AND PLOVDIV, BULGARIA IN 1876 IN THE PHOTOS OF Dmitry Ermakov
Something that might be interesting to the members of this group.
A few years before the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78 through European Turkey, that is, today's Bulgarian lands were passed by Dmitry Ermakov - the founder of Russian photography. Born in Georgia, in Tiflis (Tbilisi), later a court photographer for the Chess of Persia, a member of the French Photographic Society. It leaves behind a huge amount of high quality photos from Georgia, the Caucasus Mountains, Armenia, Turkey, Persia.
His exceptional talent was used by the Russian imperial army before the war and he traversed the Bulgarian lands by photographing and mapping roads, bridges, settlements, landmarks. And notice - later in the war, the Russian army marched on these roads, while the Ottoman retreated on them.
In our area he shoots Bachko, Stanimaka, Pashmakli, Tea Gorge. His photographs are mainly located in the Tbilisi City Museum, the Moscow and St. Petersburg archives.
Thus, thanks to the practice in those years - undercover as photographers, topographers, ethnographers, travelers, we reach unknown and interesting photographs and stories, as is the case with Dmitry Ermakov

A strange story from Bulgaria:
On the outskirts of a small village in Eastern Europe, there lies a three-decade old mystery, which still disturbs the servicemen and women who were involved to their core. Why did the Bulgarian army spend two years excavating the foothills of the Balkan Mountains, only to hide all evidence of their activities? The answers lie buried, along with the entity of Tsarichina.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
