Sofia Bulgaria has a super-modern subway system. There are 2 lines and we take a short journey from start to finish from Serdika station in downtown Sofia to Central Railway (Metro) Station and back. Truly this one of the best Europe has to offer for Metro underground subway systems.
Built in 1974 in a Minimalist and Brutalist style, Sofia Central Rail Station is totally amazing station. Bright, clean, uncluttered, and sleek in design, I give the train station 2 Thumbs-up. This is the standard that train stations should be built to. Come along as we enter into and tour the Train Station Hall and then check-out different trains at the station. We see different classes of trains, locomotives, and station platform. We will also check-out the dining locations at the station.
Wake up and smell the coffee.

The Rock-hewn Churches of Ivanovo are a group of monolithic churches, chapels and monasteries hewn out of solid rock and completely different from other monastery complexes in Bulgaria, located near the village of Ivanovo, 20 km south of Rousse, on the high rocky banks of the Rusenski Lom, 32 m above the river. The complex is noted for its beautiful and well-preserved medieval frescoes. The churches are inside Rusenski Lom Nature Park. The caves in the region had been inhabited by monks from the 1220s, when it was founded by the future Patriarch of BulgariaJoachim I, to the 17th century, where they hewed cells, churches and chapels out of solid rock. At the peak of the monastery complex, the number of churches was about 40, while the other premises were around 300, most of which are not preserved today. The Rock-hewn Churches of Ivanovo were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
