Not one living family member of mine recognizes the ethnic Bulgarian character of Macedonians. I am the unique one in my family that accepts the fact that Macedonians once considered themselves the same people as Bulgarians. I came to the realization on my own, no one pushed me to think this way.

The way to acquire your true national concious is to look to the past. Look at writings and quotes of our 19th century intellectuals for example, that is were you will find the true ethnic concious of the Macedonians, not from our illiterate villager grandparents who believed everything they were told in schools.

I have no 'tatar blood' in my family. I am Macedonian, and being Macedonian goes hand in hand with being Bulgarian at the same time.
