A transatlantic staging post since the Age of Discovery, Horta is a maritime town on the east coast of Faial in the Azores. The natural harbour has one of the busiest marinas in the world, and every captain to berth here paints a message on the jetty. This has left a big, colourful mosaic beside the water.

Not so long ago, Horta was a haven for whaling ships, and today you set sail to marvel at whales in their habitat rather than hunt them. The island of Faial is small, and can be traversed in around half an hour. If you hire a car you can make trips to a humungous stratovolcano and an entire peninsula born after an eruption in the 1950s.

    Ponta do Sol - Madeira

This is considered the hottest municipality on the island; this is also where the sun shines for the longest hours.

Economic activity is based on the primary sector, which includes agriculture, predominantly the production of sugar cane, bananas, horticulture and floriculture. Another highlight are the traditional shops and hotels. There is a plant exporting company in the municipality.

In this county is Paul da Serra, which is distinguished by being the only plateau on the island of Madeira, which is at an altitude of 1,500 m. This site has unique natural features, due to its size and location, such as cores of indigenous vegetation, wild species and migratory birds. In Paul da Serra there are wind turbines that produce electricity in a non-polluting way.

In this locality you can also visit the Cais da Ponta do Sol, the Lagoa do Lugar de Baixo and the Subtropical Floriculture Centre.

This municipality is divided into the parishes of Ponta do Sol, Canhas and Madalena do Mar.

Ponta do Sol owes its name to the presence of a rocky edge that leads to the sea and reflects the sun's rays.

At the cultural-historical level, there is the Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, known for its carvings and images, and the Palácio do Lugar de Baixo, which has a romantic style.

Another highlight are the traditional shops and hotels. There is a plant exporting company in the municipality.

Fasten your seat belt, make sure your mirrors are properly adjusted, and enjoy this trip through the highways, streets and tunnels (many) of Madeira as we head north of Madeira to the small village of São Vicente.

    Cuba, Alentejo

Cuba is a Portuguese village belonging to the district of Beja, region of Alentejo and sub-region of Baixo Alentejo, with about 3,000 inhabitants.
It is the seat of the homonymous municipality of Cuba with an area of 172.09 km² and 4,374 inhabitants (2021), subdivided into 4 parishes

a Genoese commoner, silk weaver, illiterate... has access to such a level of education as knowledge of Latin, cosmography, etc... and even marries a noblewoman belonging to the Portuguese crown... brutal. In the past, it seems to me to be unwise.

Look the names he gave to the new lands.
    - S. Salvador - His own name was Salvador.
-Santa Maria da Conceição – Monastery name in Beja (Alentejo) built by his father D. Fernando, Count of Beja (Uncle of Portuguese King) .
-Fernandina – In memory of his father D. Fernando.
-Isabela – In memory of his mother Isabel Zarco –Son of Portuguese navigator João Gonçalves Zarco who discovered Madeira.

Inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the various archaeological finds, including the Megalithic Nucleus of Mezio, the village located in a valley crossed by the River Vez retains all the charm that characterizes the Alto Minho - verdant landscapes and traditional architecture in that stand out the sunny houses.

Part of the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez is part of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, where nature retains all its original charm and hides community villages such as Soajo, where the populations maintain their ancestral uses and customs.

Arcos de Valdevez is one of the four municipalities that make up the Lima Valley. In this region, touring the Giants Route is a way of getting to know the places where four great historical figures were born who took Portugal to the four corners of the world.

Fernão de Magalhães, the Navigator, from Ponte da Barca, commanded the first circumnavigation voyage proving that the Earth is round. In Ponte de Lima Blessed Francisco Pacheco (The Saint) was born, Messenger of the Society of Jesus and one of the first Jesuit missionaries in Japan. João Alvares Fagundes (the Discoverer), from Viana do Castelo, explored and discovered Newfoundland in the North Atlantic, important cod fishing area. Originally from Arcos de Valdevez was Father Himalaya, the inventor, scientific scholar of renewable energies who represented Portugal at the Universal Exposition in St. Louis, in the United States.

Acho este vídeo interessante no estudo sobre o pensamento de Salazar, o que não quer dizer que subscreva 100%, começando logo por não ser tradicionalista.

Reconstruction of Lisbon around 1755 and the earthquake, tsunami and fire that destroyed the city on November 1st that year. It is an adaptation of the documentary "God's Wrath" (episode 5 of the series "Perfect Storms: Disasters that Changed the World", aired 2013). Music is and excerpt from Portuguese composer Estêvão de Brito's (c.1575-1641) set of the Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah for Good Friday.
