Basques are an ancient and civilized European people, of palaeo-European stock, possibly, as Karl alludes, remnant of some much larger ethnic and linguistic entity which may have inhabited much of (Western?) Europe. I can fully understand they want to split from Spain, a genetically more African than European country, with a long tradition of religious bigotry and intolerance, fanaticism, despotism and backwardness.

Finno-Ugrics have been European for the last at least two thousand years. Hungarians, who reside in Central Europe especially so.

Spain, on the other hand, had many centuries of non-European rule and non-European customs, not to speak of the genepool. All of these non-European traditions and genetics are deeply rooted in the tissue of the Spanish nation. If Spain and Portugal are European, then Algeria is as well.

At least one can be sure that applies to southern Spain. That is one of the reasons Basques have a full right to split.

Well hun don't cha lecture me about 'dat as I am a vast admirer of Finno-ugric cultures and languages (especially the finno-part), let alone I consider them fully Europeanized...but it is funny when someone argues about the "Europeaness" of other nations when someone is not of indigenous European stock himself...

For the record I do think that Basques deserve their own land, but I don't support terrorist actions.

As for Spain? Have you been there? I haven't. And until I go and judge for myself I'm not gonna talk shit about them.

These articles explain that there is 20% Jewish and 11% North African ancestry in the Spanish population. What if each individual tested had a minimal amount of this, it doesn't make Spain more African than European.
