I tend not to use redneck to describe myself. Nowadays it means uneducated and trashy and if someone calls me one I immediately take it as such. I'm a redneck in the traditional sense. Well, racism is more common amongst our group because of the racial caste system that used to rule over our society with an iron fist. Whites were brought up thinking the Negro was a slave race and that they were animalistic savages. Various things made whites think Negros were subhumans of course. Cannibalism amongst the African tribes, their lack of technological advance, and the science of the time supported that the Negro was an uneducated chimpanzee. The Nat Turner slave revolt only solidified the white view of blacks. During Reconstruction ex-slaves were used as militia to spite white Southerners. They were used as an occupation force and committed horrid atrocities against Southern whites. This only added to the belief that blacks were inherently savage. When Segregation ended, blacks attacked white students in school, killed whites in the streets,etc. When MLK was killed they burned down a lot of Baltimore. This, as before, added to the belief that blacks are inherently savage. Nowadays, blacks commit to majority of violent crimes in the US and are only 12.6% of the population. This is why racism is more common amongst rednecks.
