    Latvia has many costumes. Red and green are dominant colors and often are flowers a big part of the costume or typical hats!!

    I wonder what the history of the Latvian costumes is because the hat looks indeed a bit outlandish. But they are truly beautiful.

    No way! Why are you assuming that? I only find them slightly unusual. Though I like the costume, particularly the robe/mantle and the brooch worn by the girl on the painting.

    Is combination of red and white common in the traditional Latvian dress?

    Lithuanian dress:



    I like the male outfit The hat, the waistcoat and these funny tie-like things dangling from his neck. Very different to Polish dresses.

    Though, the female dress. Particularly the apron with all these traditional patterns and her wiastcoat looks neat too. I wonder what are these long ribbons behind her? Are they used to tie the hair up, or are they part of the hat? Anyway, the hat looks somewhat like the Latvian ones.

    I dont think so either.The female hat is similar to male hat. Over the hat they wore a kerchief.
