Look at the situation over in Brazil, a country partly founded by Italians.
According to the National Research by Household Sample (PNAD) of 2008, 48.43% of the population (about 92 million) described themselves as White; 43.80% (about 83 million) as Brown (Multiracial)European ancestry by population
1 Portuguese
2 Spaniards
3 Italians
4 Germans
Italian-brazilians (25-33 million people) rarely marry outside european-brazilians (ask Uthred or other brazilian members). I've some relatives in Sao Paulo and all are married with other euro-brazilian girls (except one, with a korean girl).
It's more probable see a mixed italian-argentine, like Mauro Camoranesi who, despite his umbrian (central italian) surname, is obviously a mestizo.
