    Default Should England become independent?

The question is: Should England become independent from the United Kingdom?

With some polls showing that more English than Scots support independence, now is a good time to discuss.

Personally I would answer yes. I will explain my reasons later.

No definitly not. It is part of Great Britian, a vital one and it should remain so.
Small independent states are not the solution. They lack power in every department
On the contrary. I am a proponent of a Germanic union consisting of:

    Great Britain
    Scandinavia
    Benelux nations
    Germany

That would be mighty world power and a counter part to the US, China and India in political and economical sense. Thats needed in order to guarentee a save and prospering future.

    Nordlicht,

Small independent states are not the solution.
England was independent for years and didn't do so bad. And England is barely small, we have 45 million people. Even taking away the immigrants we have enough.

Switzerland isn't a huge country, it's doing pretty well.

I don't really see a huge amount of evidence that the size of a nation directly correlates with how prosperous it is.

As long as England could support itself, i'm not against it. But i'm not going to be pro-actively championing the cause. I support England having a Parliament to some degree, although it's centralization in London may render this less useful than it sounds.

I have no dreams of grandeur for my country. A place of good quality living, standards that can feed, protect, and export (to some degree) itself and above all is economically and socially stable. That is the ideal for me.

    Yes, of course.

Small nations tend to be more monoethnic, preserving their roots better and having fewer ethnic conflicts. Governments are closer to their citizens and enjoy on average a better GDP per capita.
