Down a Dark Hall - it was very mah, would have been much better if they intentionally hammed it up. I mostly watched it for the sake of Uma Thurman which I like.

Exorcist II: The Heretic

I am not in the hater camp against this movie. It's a good night TV catch. And, due to the all the hype of the first, I'd even say it is scarier. 7/10

Ethan Hawke was good but I had a problem with the story. At the end of the movie, I realized the sister was completely irrelevant to the story. Her powers didn't help save him, or help him in any way. He saved himself. So basically the sister's part of the movie existed to eat up time. I like her as a character. She was funny and she made me really believe she was getting a whipping (her reaction was so realistic it was disturbing) but she didn't matter to the story.

It also doesn't make any sense that the brother never knew what was going on in the house and Hawke's character's behavior doesn't make any sense when you know the brother was staying with him. Hawke's character would wait for a kid to sneak upstairs so he could beat him and he tried to continue this 'game' with Finn even though his brother was sleeping on the second floor. How does that work? The kid would be screaming as he's being beaten. The brother would obviously hear him. But what if the brother came down for a glass of milk in the middle of the night and sees his brother sitting in his chair with a weirdo mask across from a basement door that is otherwise always closed? He'll have questions. Why take that risk as a psychopathic child murderer?

Also, while the basement was sound proof the rest of the house wasn't and so people are going to hear (and obviously the brother under the same roof) a kid screaming in pain when he's beaten with a belt in the kitchen.

It wasn't bad compared to most movies (most movies are awful) but it could have been better with just a little tweaking. It would have been better if we knew more about Hawke's character.

How he died was so dumb. A 13 year old is not going to snap the neck of a grown man. That was just irritating. If he strangled him to death that would have been more believable and that's what I thought was going to happen.
