I guess that it's because 1/3 of Bulgarians in Bulgaria have origins from Vardar Macedonia.

The regions of Macedonia are all made up. Пиринска Македония or so we like to call it was home of the Maedi, a rather famous Thracian tribe, I believe you know who Spartacus is... he hails from there.
