I'll look into a DNA test. I'm strongly drawn to Germanic/Northern European folklore but interested in family anecdotes about being of 'blood of Irish kings'.
Eldred is not my own surname, but my birth name does come from a Saxon town name, so definitely of Saxon stock on my fathers side!

One of the things i found out fairly fast is that, autosomally at least, the Germanic and Celtic peoples of Northwest Europe are pretty similar anyway. Although the differences are much clearer through y-DNA.

My username is my paternal grandmothers maiden name. One of the oldest recorded Saxon surnames. I'm proud of it. :-)

I think it has something to do with the word for wood, druid.
