There is such a unique and beautiful verity of folk costumes across our entire ethnic land. The patterns in the costumes with all it's colour expresses the warmth of our people.

The "Fustanella" (sort of like a skirt) that the men wear is identical to the one the Greeks wear, and in general the clothing the women wear can easily be mistaken for Greek clothing from all around Greece. Not all of them of course but some are.

The Fustanela is most popular in the south-west of the Balkans. But it isn't modern Greek in origin. It's actually Albanian.

Your username is Pontios. Are you by any chance the result of Pontian refugees from the 1920's who settled in Macedonia?

Impossible to have an Albanian origin as the fustanella comes from the "chiton" which was used even before the Roman Empire by the Greeks. The word "fustanella" comes from the Greek word "fusta" meaning skirt and the reason the word for it in every other nation that wears it starts with "fusta". The Albanians call it fustanellë, the Bulgarians call it fustanela, even the Turkish have a similar word "fistan". So for it to be Albanian or any other nation that has it today is impossible since before the Roman Empire, none of those nations existed.

The Fustanela could come from the ancient Chiton, but it still doesn't give you modern Greeks the right to claim it.

This costume was used by the local Arvanites (Albanians) of Athens and Greece in general, who were once a majority in Athens. This was the reason why Lord Byron wore it during his time in Greece.

It is because Athens twenty-five years ago, was only an Albanian village.

This Albanian costume is today the national dress of Greece.

Starting to go off topic, so this is my last post on the subject.
