I read a story once about a British guy who was harassing a girl in Crete and she lit his balls on fire. Not kidding!

In every beach I've been in my life (and that's a lot of beaches) it's always a couple of loud Greek families or bunch of annoying "kagkoures" teenagers that throw their cigarette buds in the sand, leave the coca-cola cans and other litter behind, and I've seen even a mother change her baby and leave the diaper right there in the sand.
Tourists, on the other hand, Germans especially (since you mentioned) always pick up their litter, carry it in a plastic bag and throw it in the first garbage can outside the beach. Greeks will almost NEVER do that.
The same applies for parks, archaeological locations, etc. The tourists always pick up the trash whereas the Greeks (I am specifically talking about Greeks because of the topic, but Southern Europeans do this in general) leave everything behind.
Greeks also, open the car window and empty the ash tray on the road. They throw empty coffee cups out of the car window while in motion. They take the trash out and when the garbage bin is full they throw the garbage next to the bin, on the street. They open windows from their homes and aim for the garbage bin at the street and usually miss. They don't recycle. Aaaaand (my personal favorite) they throw garbage inside the recycle bin.
If you haven't seen those things and you think we are squeaky clean and tourists are dirty, then you live in another Greece, at a parallel universe. We (Greeks) as a general rule have NO respect whatsoever for public places.
We keep our homes neat and clean but the public spaces nobody cares about.
I worked inside a very big and popular national park for 2 years, and every Sunday, after the crowds of people were gone, the place was a huge dumpster. Water bottles everywhere, soda cans, napkins, cigarette buds, food scraps and other disgusting stuff, everywhere.
If you go to a public park in Germany or Sweden or what not you will most likely not see a single piece of litter in the entire place.

Also, I have to add, this topic is odd. Tourism is probably the #1 source of income for Greece. Every Greek family has at least one person who works at tourism or whose lives are affected by it.
And it's one of our few chances to keep our economy alive at the moment. So threads like this, badmouthing tourists and sounding ungrateful (and as if we're even bothered by tourists at that) is not the best thing to do.
