Are marriages today less meaningful than they once were?

Very high divorce rate, higher than ever. More people rushing into marriage, and marriages not lasting as long. Is marriage less meaningful than it once was?

Its less meaningful for many because socialists and radical liberals pushed divorce, tons of civil marriages, adam and steve "marriages",
the big government messing with it, and so on.

But for some its still important.

Marriage wasn't meaningful back then. In a society were women are infantilized as children and men are forced to be "providers" you're inevitably going to get alot of women who marry for the sake of sucking out resources from their man and/or for status instead of genuine attraction.

People are losing their religiosity, then religious institutions like marriage are weakening too. My country was majoritarily catholic, marriage was sacred and indissoluble, until death. Through the time, the secularization of laws, the expansion of evangelical churches, the religious unaffiliation, the marriage became a more volatile institution here.

Now, personally, I'm still romantic, I still think the real meaning of marriage is into the hearts of lovers and no other can interfere in it.

It really depends. It's definitely become harder to pull off a successful marriage in the modern times.

A lot of people have a hard time reliably providing for themselves. They have no job security. The idea of not being able to provide for your children is terrifying.

Another big problem is hypergamy. There's a shortage of high status men for women to marry. This doesn't just lead to less couples forming, it leads to less stable couples. And there's people being more isolated and alienated than before (despite the Internet).

Briefly I say the institution of the family is not needed in the 21st century.
