In the past people used to think only black people were Arabs, true. But that was because of a common misconception of Arabs due to the old Turkish movies and how they portraited Arab people. Also probably because we had no much relations with the Arab world as we have now. They were somehow aliens to us. Today anything below Turkey is considered Arab except for Iran and Israel.

How is that even possible, before WWI the entire Arab world was part of the Ottoman Empire? How is possible for the Turks to be so ignorant of the Arab world?

Black slaves in Turkey were Arabphones of East African descent.

Old Turkish movies didn't portray Arabs as black people, in old movies Afro-Turks were referred as Arab because that's how everyone referred to them even if they were no longer arabic speakers.

Many Arabs believe that being Arab is cultural, so calling a black Arabic speaker an Arab is not entirely wrong, today Somali and Sudan are part of Arab league.
