Northern Europe had a warrior culture, if you took that as profession they basically did sports all the time and not much else.
There where physical tests to apply for service according to some accounts, naturally they could have stolen some of that stuff from Roman service.

I started doing fencing(sabre) in September, I like it so far.

What I really want to do is called HEMA which stands for Historical European Martial Arts and it is basically swordsmanship.
I highly recommend you to look up ScholaGladiatoria on YouTube. The channel is run by one of the most known HEMA
instructor in the UK. The teachings are based on medieval and renaissance treaties. He is also a great source of information on sword fighting, swords and armours.
He posts videos regularly on his channel.
