Well, I will not really praise France about this, since it's well-obvious that it's not like France really cares about Mali or something. They still see it as a colony of them and does not miss any opportunity to intervene.

France is at least showing that it is able to project military power abroad though, even if Mali is quite a small conflict. The support it's had from its allies is counts, but it is still essentially a French operation with Mali. I suppose it shows that they actually do still retain power in their sphere of influence other than economic.

It was different in WWII, the attackers were German. When you consider this it is understandable, they probably had bad memories.
Anyway, France is credible as a military power. It makes much of its own equipment and is rather well equipped and has the ability to move troops around the world and supply them quite effectively. Before WWII it had a strong military, it is kind of sad that it gave up so quickly.

Time should be 02:05 for the right comment on British-American relations.

They used the idea of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" versus the Soviets. It was a different time with different ideologies, the modern Islamist terrorists did not yet exist at that time as we know it..

Mirage f1 should be sufficient enough against primitive Islamist rebels.
