Default Ethnic Greeks vs ethnic Macedonians

    http://www.iranchamber.com/history/s.../seleucids.php

    Seleucid Empire (306 - c.150 BCE)
    By: Jens Jakobsson, 2004

Greek settlements in the empire were largely centered in Syria, the capital Antiochia being the most important, and to some extent Babylonia where the city Seleucia on Tigris succeeded Babylon as eastern city of residence. Paradoxically, many Greeks also lived in the outmost province of Bactria (Afghanistan/eastern Iran) many of them ethnic Greeks as opposed to ethnic Macedonians. Alexander had left his Greek infantry there, since he did not trust them, but historians also suggest that the Achaemenids used to deport rebellious Greek subjects there.

A very pathetic citation, as the rest of the article uses Greeks as apparently interchangeable with Macedonians. You know what that means...

Presuming you're someone with a pro-FYROM agenda, I don't know why Bulgarians are so concerned with issues that don't pertain to them. Slavs didn't reach the Balkans for nearly 1,000 years after Alexander.

Macedonians were Greeks in today's context. They were the rural, backwater type that the rest of the Greeks looked down upon. So, distinctions were made, but it's like saying Bavarians aren't German.

First todays slavomaks are closer to Serbs (physically, accent-wise, traditions : slava, etc...) than anything Bulgarian. Second, slavs reached the balkans as early as 4th century, so the interval in more in the "700-800" yrs figure rather than 1000. And third, its astonishing for someone to notice the striking similarities between ancient greeks and slavs both being ex-northern Indoeuropean nations. Language also was very close in basic words, constructs, declensions, etc...

I don't speak any Slavic languages, but I was under the impression that "Macedonian" is merely a dialect of Bulgarian. Considering that Bulgaria was never a part of Yugoslavia, and that "Macedonia" was dominated by Serbs under that time period, isn't it also possible that they are partially Serbified Bulgarians?

Not that being "Serbified Bulgarians" would help matters with their terrible identity crisis.

No, we aren't. And Bulgarians have nothing to with the fake state of FYROM.

Even not all citizens of FYROM pay attention to Alexander's question. To generalize like that is incorrect.

And Bulgaria's history doesn't start with the Slavs. Read a bit.
