Various studies show that around 20% of Spaniards or a "fifth of all the male lineages of modern Spain are of Jewish origin" (and another 10% Moorish) but many Spaniards hate Jews as a legacy of the Inquisition.
Given that such a large number of Spaniards are of Jewish origin does this beg multiple questions such as, "Are Spaniards Jewish self-haters?"
Are they such sincere Judeophobes as a consequence of the religious zealotry of the Inquisition or a subconscious paranoid overreaction to put people off the secret Jewish roots they are unfortunately embarrassed by (with good reason given it was a capital crime to be a Jew in Spain for many hundreds of years)? Given that many of the people behind the Inquisition were in fact Jewish converso's ("new Catholics," eg Jewish converts to Catholicism to escape the Inquistion) themselves, such as the infamous Tomás de Torquemada, this is not a new development.
Is the only solution to overcome this historical, cultural and ethnic anomaly that Spaniards of Jewish origin re-embrace Judaism? Given their obsession with Jews (driven by their secret Jewish identity) is it in fact inevitable that they will one day come back into the Jewish fold just like thousands of other Crypto-Jews of Sephardi origin have in recent years.
