    Default Classify Carles Puyol

SPANISH Football player. What part of Spain is his look common? Is this what a "true" Spaniard looks like?

Surname is typical in Languedoc, but also occurs in Catalans (who are, or used to be, also Occitans). Looks are extremely typical in S France. More like an Occitan than Spanish look. Cro-Magnid mixed with Iberian.

My first impression was that he looks Paleo-Baskid. If that's even a viable classification term.

Is his curly hair a Cromagnid trait? Also what part of Spain are names that end in "ol" common? "Puyol" "Gasol" He seems to be of a similar racial type as the Gasol brothers.

Puyol and the Gasol are Catalans. (Well, the second surname of the Gasol, Sáez, is Spanish, so maybe they're half. But Puyol is clearly Catalan, as his whole name Carles Puyol i Saforcada, indicates.)

Puyol is from the Pallars region, in North-West Catalonia, the area which was Romanized later and which was the easternmost settlement of the Basques until well into the 10th century, when it was fully Catalanized. However, in my opinion, his type is not Baskid, but mostly Paleo-Atlantid mixed with something else.

Correction; both surnames are Spanish, Gasol is Catalan and Sáez is Castillian, do not confuse people with your political ideals.

It's you who is confusing it with politics. Following your argument, Ngongo or Hadjani are also Spanish surnames. Surnames don't have a nationality, they belong to ethnolinguistic groups, because they are words after all. Herrera is a Spanish surname if the guy is from Guatemala. Gasol will be a Catalan surname whether the guy is from Spain, France or Andorra. As for Sáez, it is Castilian indeed, but the international name for the Castilian language is Spanish, so when in English, I'll say Spanish. I don't see where the problem is, to be honest.

So do the Gasol brothers and Carles Puyol look to be of similar sub racial types to you?

Carles Puyol is from Spain, Cataluńa is a Spanish community, is an indisputable fact.

Puyol is Catalan, Sáez is Castillian, both are Spanish surnames from Spain.
