Default Why are Moldovans and Romanians so genetically different and yet....

there is a controversy still going on whether they are the same people or not?

Romanians are genetically more similar with Bulgars and Moldavians with Ukrainians!

I know very little about Romanian and Moldavian history so I ask this question.

They may perceive themselves as the same people due to cultural aspects and language, but genetically if there is a difference then there is. It's like how people from Austria and parts of Germany are probably not genetically identical.

The nations mentioned above overlap a lot in general.

    Romania+Bulgaria+Moldova=First Bulgarian empire

"Moldovans" are a Soviet invention aimed at creating a separate identity (like "Austrians" for Germans). Historically, physically, linguistically, they are the same people and unlike "Austrians", speak no real dialect, only a slightly archaic and russified version of Romanian.

Genetically different because of more Slavic components in Moldovians but I think culturally very similar. But I also heard that Moldova is divided in Romanophiles and pro Russian or Ukranian inhabitants. Some want to unify with Romania, others insist on independence
I also think they use the Cyrilic letters in Moldavia instead of the Latin ones in Romania.
Austrian/Germany is comparable. Concerning dialect I have to tell you Austrian speak Bavarian with a slightly different intonation
So this is no seperating factor
Prodigies appear in the oddest of places

But unlike "Moldavian", Bavarian is not mutually intelligible with Hochdeutsch. It is by all means a separate language no less different than Dutch.
