Why do so many Turks believe in the Khazar theory?

It seems that the only people who bring up the Khazar-Ashkenazi theory are Turkish people. Why is that? I thought Turks hated Jews, why do they want to be related to them?

its because they feel a bit ashamed to other people like germans or russians who have more accomplished in history. So they play here and there the Khazar card in a debate.

Not just Turks. It's a well known fact that the Khazars were a Turkic people with an original polytheistic Pagan set of beliefs adopted Judaism in the 7th century A.D. Islam and Christianity were immense spheres of influence at the time and they were pressured to adopt a new monotheistic religion but instead decided to adopt Judaism to be independant of the other two religions.
