French is probably the most beautiful romance tongue. It doesn't sound like German to me.

Many think Walloon is the same as Belgian French, and they're different things.

Walloon is an Oïl dialect akin to Burgundian and Lorrain.
But a large part of Wallonia (one third, West of Charleroi) used to speak an substantially different Oïl dialect, Picard, which is closer to Norman.

In addition, this 2/3:1/3 synthesis of Walloon + Picard undergoes a strong influence from Brussels, whose French dialect carries strong Flemish overtones.

Consequently, French as it is spoken in Belgium has a composite accent that is somewhat different from those found on neighbouring French regions.

A humorous sample of modern Walloon dialect (with sizeable Picard and Brusselian influences):

Another funny video, about misunderstandings between Brussels' and Walloon French (the Brusselian is the one with the bigger moustache):

    Pan-Belgian popular French:

I wouldn't call that first video even modern Walloon, but just a spoof on Walloon mixed up with Brusseler.

It's a romance language, but totally different sounding from the rest. The only two romance languages that sound the same to me are Italian and Romanian.

French sounds more romance than portuguese, IMO.

Besides some of the weird, guttural sounds, French sounds Romance to a tee. It's no more deviating than Castilian with all it's Jota and Theta sounds.
