    From the Minho area.

    Minho stands on the north coast of Portugal, just close to Galiza. During the Feast of Senhora dos Aflitos in August, you can see thousands of young ladies, dressed as these two ones. The bride wears a black dress as a sign of fidelity to her future husband, as this is the dress she will be buried when she dies. Her bride's bunch of flowers has got a handkerchief, called "lenço dos Namorados", that she has embroidered and had given to her sweetheart before the marriage. The "Mordoma" wears red, as a symbol of youth. She is single and is always the eldest daughter in a family who is responsible for gathering funds for the feast.The bride's gold is her dowry when she gets married. Both costumes are completely embroidered. Two of the most beautiful costumes in Portugal.
